The nutrients escape gradually only during the growing season. Peak fertilization will occur in the summer when plants' growth and nutrient demand are the highest. There is no mixing, measuring, chemical contact or waste. For existing plants simply place packets in a circle around the plantings' feeding zone 6 to 8 inches in depth.
